Coldplay has donated £14,000 to support a music development program for young people in Frome, Somerset, following their rehearsal for Glastonbury at the town’s Cheese and Grain venue earlier this year.
The band contributed £10,000 directly to Young People Frome, a charity offering free music programs for 12- to 18-year-olds. Additionally, Coldplay’s visit to local record store Raves from the Grave, where they signed CDs and vinyl for a raffle, raised an extra £4,000.
Starting in January 2025, the donation will fund monthly Sunday sessions at the Bert Jansch Studio. Open to curious young musicians, regardless of experience, these sessions will allow participants to explore a professional recording environment and potentially create their own recordings.
Later in the year, local schools and young people not in education, employment, or training will also have access to the studio.
Cheese and Grain director Steve Macarthur praised Coldplay’s generosity, noting the band’s enthusiasm for the venue’s community-focused mission: “We’re not here to make money; we’re here to make music.”
Interested participants can apply through the Cheese and Grain website.
