Cradle of Filth’s New Album The Screaming of the Valkyries Arrives in April — No Ed Sheeran Collab Included

Dani Filth has announced that Cradle of Filth’s upcoming album, The Screaming of the Valkyries, will drop in April 2025. In an exclusive Metal Hammer interview, the extreme metal frontman confirmed that despite recent buzz, the band’s highly anticipated collaboration with Ed Sheeran will not appear on the new LP.

A Return to Classic Cradle Atmosphere

Filth revealed that the album will pay homage to Cradle’s classic records like Dusk… And Her Embrace and Midian. “It’s got elements of everything we’ve done, really,” he said, referencing its atmospheric sound and storytelling approach. However, unlike their concept-driven past albums, The Screaming of the Valkyries won’t be a concept piece.

“You have to have tunnel vision with concept albums,” Filth explained. “This is just an album—no intros, no outros, no guest appearances. Just nine songs.”

Why the Ed Sheeran Collab Isn’t on the Album

Despite being completed, the Ed Sheeran collaboration is being held back to avoid overshadowing the album. “Originally, everyone wanted us to release it with a big fanfare, but Ed’s management wasn’t keen,” Filth explained. “It’s mixed and ready to go—it’s fantastic—but only a handful of people have heard it. My mum hasn’t even heard it!”

News of the surprising Cradle-Sheeran team-up first emerged in 2021, and after delays—including the birth of Sheeran’s second child—the track remains unreleased. Filth hinted that they’re aiming for an early 2025 release with Sheeran potentially appearing in the music video.

Cradle of Filth’s 2025 Plans

Beyond the album, Cradle of Filth is set to make a triumphant return to the stage with a performance at Download Festival 2025. Filth also took a moment to criticize artificial intelligence during the interview, calling it “a bit of a problem” and dismissing it as “shit.”

Fans eagerly await The Screaming of the Valkyries and remain hopeful for the long-awaited Sheeran collab. In the meantime, Cradle’s new material promises to deliver their signature blend of gothic storytelling and sonic chaos.
