When Kep1er released their 2024 single “Shooting Star”, many fans viewed it as a symbolic farewell. But instead of signaling the end, the group redefined their destiny. Despite their expected disbandment after two and a half years following their 2021 Girls Planet 999 win, seven of Kep1er’s nine members—Yujin, Xiaoting, Chaehyun, Dayeon, Hikaru, Bahiyyih, and Youngeun—chose to renew their contracts, determined to keep their journey alive.
Strength in Solidarity
“We decided to renew the contract with the thought that we would be starting anew,” Yujin shared in a recent NME interview. Chaehyun echoed the sentiment: “There’s so much that we still haven’t shown with these great members. I want to keep going and show even better music on bigger stages.”
The group’s strong bond with their fans has also fueled their determination. Dayeon credited their loyal Kep1ians as a key motivator, while Youngeun noted that the members’ unwavering support has helped her grow as an artist.
A New Beginning at KCON
Kep1er’s resolve was further validated during their standout performances at KCON in Los Angeles and Frankfurt. Their viral cover of Stray Kids’ “Back Door” captivated audiences, while their debut of the unreleased track “sync-love” at KCON Germany drew widespread acclaim from fans and non-fans alike.
TIPI-TAP: Reintroducing Kep1er
In November 2024, Kep1er released TIPI-TAP, their first mini-album as a seven-member group. The album showcased their creative growth, with the members involved in everything from conceptual discussions to choreography. Closing track “Heart Surf”, co-written by Youngeun, poignantly reflects on the group’s journey, reinforcing that their voyage is far from over.
Looking Ahead
With their third anniversary approaching, the members are eager to experiment with new styles. “We want to try something daring—maybe a sexy, mature concept for our next title track,” Bahiyyih hinted with a smile.
The group’s unprecedented renewal defies the reality TV cycle that often dictates temporary careers. As Hikaru put it, “It might not always be a smooth path, but we hope that as people watch our journey, they’ll smile and feel happy.”
