Slipknot’s Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan recently sat down with NME to discuss the band’s ongoing 25th Anniversary Tour, the much-anticipated Look Outside Your Window album, and what the future holds for the iconic metal act. The tour celebrates the band’s 1999 self-titled debut, with deep cuts, raw emotions, and reflections on their storied career.
Revisiting Their Explosive Debut
Reflecting on revisiting their earliest material, Clown said:
- The Emotional Toll: “It’s been good to do this with newer members, but I do miss Joey [Jordison] and Paul [Gray]. Revisiting the debut album reminds me of what it felt like in the beginning.”
- Fan Response: “The fans are coming out in droves to relive the feelings they had when they joined us 25 years ago.”
- Raw Feelings on Stage: “I’ve allowed myself to let it all in again. There are a lot of people who aren’t on the planet anymore, and that makes it tough.”
Look Outside Your Window: Finally Coming in 2024
The long-awaited “lost” Slipknot album, Look Outside Your Window, is finally on track for a 2024 release.
- Status Update: “I showed Corey the final artwork two days ago… The money has been spent, there’s a plan, and it is coming out.”
- A Different Side of Slipknot: “It’s music we made with no rules. I don’t know if it’s ‘good,’ but I know that I love it.”
New Music and Eloy Casagrande’s Impact
Clown expressed excitement about the energy new drummer Eloy Casagrande has brought to the band.
- A Fresh Spirit: “There’s something happening between the nine of us right now that is very fun. It feels like a cloud has left.”
- Inspiration for New Albums: “We probably have several albums in us right now. Corey already has ideas and lyrics. It feels like how it was when we were younger and writing music for ourselves.”
On Sleep Token, Bring Me The Horizon, and the Music Industry
Clown shared his candid opinions on the current state of music:
- On Sleep Token: “They have their niche, and they’re working hard. If the fans are happy, then they deserve everything they get.”
- On Bring Me The Horizon: “I’ve been a fan since the very beginning. They’re proving they can make the jump to headlining major festivals.”
- The Industry Today: “There are so many horrible bands right now. The days of great music have come and gone at the moment. But the business needs to push the few good bands we have in the right direction.”
Looking Ahead
The band’s future promises a mix of new music, surprises, and freedom:
- A Return to Roots: “We’re not on a label, so we can come together like we did in the beginning… That’s when the real shit happens.”
- More Touring: After wrapping the anniversary tour, Slipknot will embark on UK and European dates in 2025.
