The Cure Tease Two More Albums Following Songs of a Lost World

Fresh off the release of their first album in 16 years, Songs of a Lost World, The Cure are showing no signs of slowing down. In a teaser for his upcoming interview with Absolute Radio’s Danielle Perry, frontman Robert Smith revealed plans for two additional albums, offering fans an exciting glimpse into the band’s prolific new era.

What’s Next for The Cure?

Smith described the upcoming projects:

  1. A Companion Album:
    • Closely tied to Songs of a Lost World.
    • Explores different themes with a slightly lighter tone.
  2. A Third Album:
    • A “completely different” and experimental collection.
    • Features “late-night studio stuff” that Smith described as “very, very odd.”
    • Lyrics remain unfinished as Smith has been focused on live performances.

“This Songs of a Lost World album is a really emotional piece of work… The companion piece, it’s not quite as dark. The third one is very odd… but some of it is really, really good.”

A Prolific Comeback

The Cure’s renewed creative energy comes alongside the massive success of Songs of a Lost World, which has reignited the band’s chart dominance:

  • First UK No. 1 Album since 1992’s Wish.
  • Topped the U.S. Top Album Sales Chart, their first No. 1 there.
  • Debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, their highest-charting album in over 30 years.
  • No. 1 across multiple charts: Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, and Vinyl Albums.

Songs of a Live World: A Live Celebration

Last week, The Cure announced Songs of a Live World, a live album capturing the release-day concert for Songs of a Lost World. The setlist features a full performance of the new record alongside fan favorites from their legendary career.

Smith, reflecting on this creative period, summed it up beautifully:

“The reaction to the new music has been so, so great. It’s been really lovely to feel people giving us all the love.”
