Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department Returns to No. 1 on U.K. Albums Chart

Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department has reclaimed the top spot on the U.K. Albums Chart, marking its ninth non-consecutive week at No. 1 (chart dated Dec. 6). The album’s resurgence follows the release of its Anthology Edition on Nov. 29, featuring all 31 tracks plus acoustic versions on both streaming platforms and physical formats. According to the Official Charts Company, 79% of this week’s total sales were physical copies, with the album also topping the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.

Originally released in April, The Tortured Poets Department was Swift’s 12th U.K. No. 1 album, tying her with Madonna for the most chart-toppers by a female artist in the region. The record broke several U.K. milestones earlier this year, including the fastest-selling album in over seven years and the fastest-selling vinyl since 1994. Swift was also named the most streamed artist of 2024 by both Apple Music and Spotify, with The Tortured Poets Department topping the platforms’ album charts.

The rest of the U.K. Albums Chart’s top five includes Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet at No. 2, Kendrick Lamar’s GNX at No. 3, Michael Bublé’s holiday staple Christmas at No. 4, and Juice WRLD’s posthumous release The Party Never Ends at No. 5.

In other chart news, Fontaines D.C.’s Romance surged back into the top 20, jumping 15 places to No. 13 after the start of the band’s U.K. and Ireland tour. The Irish rockers originally peaked at No. 2 with the record in August.
