Mariah Carey Reflects on Iconic Christmas Video for Vevo’s Footnotes

Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas (Make My Wish Come True Edition)” music video, released in 2019, takes center stage in Vevo’s latest Footnotes episode. Created to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her timeless holiday hit, Carey revealed that the goal was to make a fun, glamorous tribute inspired by Busby Berkeley’s elaborate musical numbers.

In the episode, Carey admits that working alongside the dancers was a challenge due to choreography being outside her comfort zone. Directed by Joseph Kahn, the visual contrasts the cozy home-video style of the 1994 original, instead embracing an extravagant winter wonderland filled with peppermint-clad dancers, nutcrackers, and dazzling holiday glamour. Kahn described the video as the definitive Christmas visual that had never been made — until then.

The enduring popularity of “All I Want for Christmas Is You” continues, as the track re-entered the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 this week. Carey is currently concluding her 2024 holiday tour, with final performances scheduled for Dec. 7 in Baltimore and Dec. 17 in Brooklyn.
