Hanabie.: From Tokyo’s Streets to Global Metal Stardom

Hanabie., the Tokyo-based all-women metal band known for their bold style and eclectic sound, is gearing up for an explosive 2025 after dropping their latest EP, Bucchigiri Tokyo. Reflecting their decade-long journey, the six-track EP encapsulates the band’s rapid rise from high school gigs to international festivals.

Global Recognition and Download Festival

Hanabie. gained massive recognition after their UK festival debut at Download Festival this year, where they performed under a suddenly clear sky. “Everyone was welcoming, and the floor was packed with fans who knew our songs,” shared guitarist Matsuri.

Unique Style and Sound

Fusing metal, hip-hop, and EDM, Hanabie. delivers an electrifying blend of heavy riffs, glittering synths, and chaotic energy. Their distinctive style has earned them the fan-coined label “Harajuku-core,” drawing inspiration from Tokyo’s vibrant Harajuku district. “Our music and style are about pursuing individuality,” said vocalist Yukina.

Visual Identity and DIY Roots

The band’s hyper-colorful fashion, which mixes textures and patterns like plaid and metallics, reflects their vibrant energy. Visuals play a central role in their artistry, with music videos like “Pardon Me, I Have To Go Now” amassing millions of views. Remarkably, Hanabie. retains its DIY ethos, having started as teenagers covering Maximum The Hormone songs.

Bucchigiri Tokyo: A Full-Throttle Mission

The EP’s title blends their Tokyo roots with “bucchigiri,” a Japanese slang term for being the best. “It represents our mindset for the future — to go full-throttle from Tokyo to the world,” Yukina explained.

Looking Ahead

With upcoming performances at major festivals like Germany’s Wacken Open Air and a 10th-anniversary celebration in the works, Hanabie. is revving up for an unforgettable year. Their mix of cultural authenticity, musical innovation, and raw energy positions them as a unique force in the global metal scene.

Bucchigiri Tokyo is available now via Sony Music.
