From viral resilience to chart-topping success, K-pop trio VIVIZ—comprised of former GFRIEND members Eunha, SinB, and Umji—are charting a unique path in the industry. In a recent NME interview, the group shared insights into their evolution, creative process, and plans for the future.
- From GFRIEND to VIVIZ: The trio rose to fame in 2015 as part of GFRIEND, going viral after completing a rain-soaked performance despite repeated falls. Following GFRIEND’s sudden disbandment in 2021, Eunha, SinB, and Umji reunited under BPM Entertainment, debuting as VIVIZ in 2022.
- Creative Control: Unlike their earlier days, VIVIZ actively shapes their projects. “We’re doing everything from one to nine,” joked Eunha, hinting at the balance between their vision and input from BPM Entertainment. For their latest single, ‘Shhh!’, the trio collaborated with their label to blend Latin pop elements into their signature style.
- Songwriting Milestones: Umji, a late bloomer in songwriting, has become a standout creative force. On their new mini-album, ‘Voyage,’ she penned lyrics for two tracks, ‘Hypnotized’ and ‘Love & Tears,’ showcasing her growing confidence. “Working on both tracks at once actually made it easier,” she shared, describing the creative process as a “refreshing” challenge.
- Looking Back and Ahead: While embracing their identity as VIVIZ, the trio still cherishes their GFRIEND roots. They are set to reunite with former bandmates in 2025 for the group’s 10th anniversary, teasing that fans should “look forward to it.”
- The Chemistry of Three: As a trio, VIVIZ balances group synergy with individual flair. “Our music shows the chemistry, and our performances highlight teamwork,” said Umji. “But we also bring out each member’s unique traits. It’s the best of both worlds.”
With nearly a decade of experience and a fresh sense of purpose, VIVIZ continues to evolve, combining their history with bold steps forward in K-pop’s dynamic landscape.
