Mike Shinoda Opens Up About Linkin Park’s New Lineup and Touring Without Brad Delson

In a recent interview with the Zach Sang Show, Mike Shinoda discussed Linkin Park’s updated lineup, the absence of guitarist Brad Delson from live shows, and the addition of drummer/co-producer Colin Brittain as the band gears up for its highly anticipated 2025 world tour and the release of their new album, From Zero.

Brad Delson’s Absence and Alex Feder’s Role

Delson, one of Linkin Park’s founding members, has opted out of live touring for mental health reasons. Despite this, he remains an integral part of the band. Shinoda explained:

“Brad is our guitarist — he’s in the band — but he doesn’t love the touring and live-show lifestyle. He found a guy named Alex [Feder], who’s spectacular, a really good guitarist, and they get along great. Brad chose Alex to play his parts live.”

Colin Brittain’s Dual Role

Shinoda also revealed how Colin Brittain, who contributed to From Zero as a co-producer and writer, stepped into a dual role as drummer:

“We needed somebody to play drums, and Colin’s primary instrument is drums. He was so excited when we asked him to join.”

Brittain joins the lineup alongside new co-lead vocalist Emily Armstrong, making this a fresh yet cohesive chapter for the band.

Rob Bourdon’s Departure

Longtime drummer Rob Bourdon stepped away from Linkin Park, citing a desire to distance himself from the band. Shinoda expressed his sadness but emphasized his support for Bourdon’s decision:

“As a friend, that was sad, but I want him to do whatever makes him happy. Everybody wishes him the best.”

The Band’s Dynamic Moving Forward

Shinoda shared how Delson initially hesitated about the reunion but later embraced the band’s new energy:

“Brad was hesitant… but he gave it a chance and loved it. One of the first things he said was, ‘I think we could write something heavier.’”

World Tour and From Zero

Linkin Park’s comeback album, From Zero, marks their first full-length effort since 2017’s One More Light and is set for release in April 2025. The band’s massive 2025 world tour kicks off in January in Mexico City before spanning North America, Europe, Asia, and South America.

With a refreshed lineup and renewed energy, Linkin Park is set to usher in a bold new era while honoring their legacy.
